Bouchard, Mathieu

Mathieu Bouchard is a forest engineering graduate from Laval University (B. Sc., 1997, M. Sc., 2000). His master’s degree in forest science focused on the effects of forestry practices on insect communities. He also obtained a doctorate from the University of Québec at Montréal (UQAM; Ph. D., 2005) for his work on the effects of historical spruce budworm epidemics on forest dynamics in the balsam fir–yellow birch bioclimatic domain. From 2008 to 2010, he worked for the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs, both on the implementation of ecosystem-based management in forest planning and on forest fire management. From 2011 to 2020, he worked at the Direction de la recherche forestière as a researcher in forest ecology. His work focused mainly on natural disturbances (insect epidemics, fires), ecosystem-based management, and the simulation of forest landscape dynamics.
