Dignard, Norman
Norman Dignard is a forest engineer who graduated from Laval University (B. Sc.) in 1981. In 1987, he obtained a master’s degree (M. Sc.) in forest ecology and pedology from the same institution. Still in 1987, he was recruited by the Direction de la recherche forestière as a botanist and associate curator of the Herbier du Québec, of which he was curator until his retirement in 2023. His activities focused on the floristics and taxonomy of Québec’s and Eastern North America’s vascular flora as well as on the conservation and enhancement of the herbarium’s collections. He was particularly interested in the floristic diversity of arctic and subarctic environments as well as in the study and protection of vulnerable plants, particularly in forest environments. He took part in the characterization of the flora and vegetation of projected national parks or protected areas, and collaborated on the herbarium’s website as well as the collection database. He was a member of the advisory committee on Québec’s threatened or vulnerable flora for 12 years. In addition to having contributed to the Flore nordique du Québec et du Labrador, he is the author of over a hundred reports, guides, scientific articles and book chapters.
