Havreljuk, Filip

Filip Havreljuk graduated as a forest engineer from Laval University (B. Sc., 2008) and earned his doctorate in forestry science from the same institution (Ph. D., 2015). His thesis focused on the links between the visual characteristics of standing hardwood trees and the value of processed products. In 2013, he joined the Direction de la recherche forestière as a researcher on growth modelling in hardwood stands. His main areas of scientific activity relate to the modelling of growth, mortality, recruitment and quality of trees in stands dominated by sugar maple and yellow birch. An important part of his work also aims at developing and improving the product distribution for the main hardwood species to better define their market value. His main areas of expertise are related to tree classification systems according to their quality and vigor as well as the effects of various tree defects and diseases on wood quality.
