François Hébert is a biologist who graduated from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi in 2001. He obtained a master’s degree in renewable resources from the same institution in 2004 and a doctorate in forest sciences from Université Laval in 2010. Following these graduate studies, he completed a postdoctoral internship in grass surface development at the University of Guelph in 2010. He has also been a forest engineer since 2019 and an associate professor at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. When he first joined the Direction de la recherche forestière (DRF) from 2011 to 2015, François was part of the plantation forestry team and was interested in the effect of thinning and pruning on growth and wood quality, in addition to being a specialist in the management of forest invasive alien plants such as glossy and European buckthorns. From 2018 to 2022, he was a forest fire management specialist at the Direction de la protection des forêts of the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts. Since returning to the DRF in 2022, François has been interested in adaptation silviculture for climate change and more specifically in the operational feasibility of different silvicultural adaptation measures and the impact of these on the growth and physiology of forest species.
