Saucier, Jean-Pierre
As a forest engineer, Jean-Pierre Saucier graduated from Laval University in forest management and silviculture (B. Sc., 1984, M. Sc., 1992) and holds a doctorate in forestry from the École nationale du génie rural des eaux et des forêts in Nancy, France (Dr. Sc., 1997). He worked for the ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs from 1985 to 2021, first at the Direction des inventaires forestiers and then at the Direction de la recherche forestière from 2008 to 2021. He contributed to the development of Québec’s ecological land classification hierarchical system and worked on forest growth and yield modelling. He also participated in national and international initiatives for vegetation classification and ecological mapping. From 2015 until his retirement in 2021, he was the director of the forest research branch and coordinated the many facets of the research program on sustainable forest management involving 35 researchers from the Department and many external collaborators. His work experiences include ecological land classification, forest ecology applied to silviculture and forest growth and yield modelling.
