Seto, Martin

Martin Seto is a forest engineer specializing in forest hydrology. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in forest management and environment in 2004 and a master’s degree in forest science in 2005 from Université Laval before pursuing doctoral studies at the same institution. His research has focused on the effects of forest operations (logging, road construction, bridge and culvert installation) on watershed hydrology and aquatic ecosystems. In 2008, he completed a doctoral course in ecotoxicology at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (Centre Eau, Terre et Environnement). He also taught forest hydrology as a lecturer at Université Laval from 2007 to 2010 and in 2016. In 2011, he joined the Direction de l’aménagement et de l’environnement forestiers of the Ministère des Ressources Naturelles et des Forêts (MRNF). His mandate then consisted in developing and coordinating the implementation of departmental guidelines for the application of ecosystem approaches to spatial organization of forests in the various bioclimatic areas of Quebec. In 2019, he joined the MNRF’s Direction de la recherche forestière as head of the Service du soutien scientifique. From 2020 to 2023, he was head of the Service de la sylviculture et du rendement des forêts in the same directorate. Since 2023, he has been director of forest research.
