Division II – Roads
§6. Winter roads

Section 82

A winter road must preserve of the natural drainage of the soil and must not have the effect of channeling water on the surface of the road.

1

Objectives

  • To preserve the natural drainage of the soil
  • To preserve the integrity of an aquatic, wetland or riparian environment
  • To avoid carrying sediment into an aquatic, wetland or riparian environment

Additional information

It is important to make sure the winter road does not disturb the natural drainage of the soil. It may alter the path of the water by channelling it to the sides and sometimes even onto the roadway surface. If this is likely to happen, the runoff water must be diverted to the other side of the winter road by installing a drainage channel.
